Course Description

The diverse interactions that take place at a university between students, academic staff and technical and administrative employees usually run quite smoothly. However, unacceptable escalations can occur too. Insults, threats of violence and vandalism are just examples.

The reasons for conflict depend on the respective area of one's own activity: Missing a deadline, receiving a tip-off about one's own misconduct or the feeling of being treated disadvantageously compared to others are among the risk situations in which some people react increasingly aggressively.

Professionals who experience aggression unprepared often experience it as a great psychological burden. On the other hand, targeted, mental and practical preparation for these risks increases not only the safety but also the satisfaction of those affected, both in normal and exceptional cases. The results are increased awareness and ability to act.

In this talk you learn something about:

  • Forms and triggers of aggression and threats
  • Specific warning signals for impending escalations
  • Strategies for psychological de-escalation and boundary setting
  • Precautionary measures and self-protection in risky situations
  • Coping with stress in acutely threatening situations
  • Process stressful experiences better
