Asmis Group takes Tim Zwier out for dinner to Auerbach's Keller, known for its historic ambience and classic Saxon cuisine.

Prof. Tim Zwier from the Combustion Research Facility at Sandia National Laboratories (Livermore, USA) is visiting us from 9-12 September, 2024. Tim is an expert in using state-of-the-art tools pf gas phase chemical physics to probe the dynamics of conformational isomerization and chemical reactions on complex energy surfaces. He's probably best known for his pioneering work in the field of conformer-specific double resonance spectroscopy. As a 2017 Humboldt Research Award winner Tim is visiting Germany often und this time around took the opportunity to start a fruitful collaboration using IRPD spectroscopy to study the microsolvation of the building blocks of cryptand cages.       

During his studies in Leipzig from 1765 to 1768, Goethe often spent time in his student pub Auerbachs Keller. It was here, where he was inspired to write his world-famous work ‘Faust’. His main characters therefore greet all visitors as a statue in front of the entrance to the cellar. People say, whoever touches Faust's foot experiences happiness.
